1/2" Drywall
The standard.
5/8" Drywall
5/8" Drywall is necessary to adhere to fire-code (Type X) for Commericial properties and seperated living spaces. For personal projects, installing 5/8" Drywall can be used as a primary, or complimentary soundproofing agent within your living space
54" Drywall
The regular sheet of drywall stands at 4ft high, by the length of the sheet and the thickness of the board being installed: 1/2" or 5/8". Sheets of 54" Drywall are bigger than a normal one, as they stand at 4ft 6".
For higher ceilings with odd height measurements, 54" Drywall, at the thickness needed, will be incorporated to minimize the amount of joints needed to be covered: If a wall is 9ft high, 2 sheets of 54" drywall can be installed, vesus 2 regular sheets and a 1ft piece to cover the gap
Water-Resistant Drywall
For bathrooms: If you're seeking to use a drywall solution for your tubs and showers, there are unique sheets of drywall with water and mould resistant properties that can be installed:
Blueboard
The most affordable option. Blueboard, though we recommend it mainly for just tubs, is fine to be installed around showers as well
Durock
Though mainly used for fireplaces, Durock Cement Board is a serviceable option to use for your bathroom's shower and tub that falls in the middle of the cost range.
Densshield
The most expensive of the bunch, however it's the highest quality. We would recommend installing Denssheild for showers, however it's more than you would need for a tub.
Drywall Returns
Drywall Returns, or otherwise noted as Window Returns-- If the framing is in place, can be installed to provide a trimless finish to your windows.
For clients interested in using this finish, we do not encourage you to apply this to the windows within your basement because of moisture concerns, which can compromise the final product.
